The Lost Colony

In the spring of 1585, Richard Grenville commanded a ship sent to Roanoke by Sir Walter Raleigh. Ralph Lane was send to erect a fort for protection and settlement. Him and about 100 soldiers built a base, the called it Fort Raleigh. They got a hint of the fever for gold and they wasted a lot of time digging for it. They fought a lot and they were soon antagonized by the nearby natives. They started fighting and killed a number of people. Eventually, Francis Drake came along and replenished the soldiers by making an inlet. A hurricane threatened, and all the soldieris abandoned Roanoke and headed home. Drake left behind a number of his prisoners to make room for the Lane colony. After Lane left, Richard Grenville arrived from England to resupply Fort Raleigh. He found no one around and thought that everyone was hiding. He left a number of his soldiers there and Sailed the Carribean, but when he came back them also were no where to be found.
